At the moment this section caters for boys & girls from 13-15 years old or who are in 1st year to 3rd year. We meet on Thursday evenings. During our weekly meetings we play games and we do patrol work. Patrol work could include anything from how to pitch a tent, building a bivvywack and map & compass to plan out hikes & orienteering. For patrol work we work in small groups or patrols and at the moment we have four patrols; Fox, Cow, Sheep and Rabbit. Each patrol has a patrol leader, this is a scout who is in charge of that patrol and usually has enough experience to help the members of their patrol learn new things. The Patrol Leaders or PL’s also meet up to discuss the programme, they discuss with the leaders what sort of things they hope to do in the weekly meetings and what sort of activities they want to run.

Apart from our weekly meetings we also do lots of different activities at the weekends. We go camping, hiking, hostelling, rock climbing, swimming, orienteering, sionnach’s, M.P.Cs and so much more. Then once a year we also go on a longer camp which is called annual camp. This camp usually runs from 4 days upwards, is always a lot of fun and can be in or outside the country. On annual camp we try to do a different type of activitiy from the norm, and the scouts also get a chance to try out all of the skills that they have learnt throughout the year.

So that is who we are and what we do, if you are interested in joining up please go to our contacts page

Fota 2010

Just back from Annual Camp and everyone had an amazing time. I would like to thank all of the leaders, explorers scouts, discovery scouts and rover scouts who were involved for an incredible camp. Watch this space and I hope to have a log written by two of our scouts up shortly along with many many photos of the camp.

Last Discoveries

Next Thursday is our last meeting for this year.

As some of you know it is also our last year as we are immigrating to Canada during the summer. This leaves the Scouts down two leaders. We really need people to volunteer to help out or the section may not run next year. We, by law, have to have a certain amount of leaders to children and the same people are left doing this year after year. This is not fair on them. With the new child protection laws it takes about 8 weeks to get Garda Clearance (even if you have received it before you need to re-apply for scouts), you don’t need to train as a leader and you don’t need any experience. Rachel had no experience in scouting when she started.

If you want the 29th Dublin Scouts to continue please volunteer some time.

We would also particularly like to thank Emma who even though is an explorer Leader has come down every week to help us.

Hope you all have a great summer.
